Pedestrians and bicyclists comprise nearly 19% of all roadside accidents–a statistic that made our Safety team realize there was a need for training surrounding pedestrian and bicyclist awareness. With this in mind, our Sumter County, Florida team recently hosted an Easter-themed safety blitz focusing on safety tips for sharing the road.
During the morning pull-outs and afternoon arrivals, our Safety team talked to drivers about the importance of remaining aware of pedestrians and bicyclists while on the road. Some of the tips they shared included making sure you “rock and roll” in the driver’s seat when looking for pedestrians and bicycles, watching your mirrors and bike lanes consistently, and always yielding to pedestrians. Drivers were even greeted by the Easter Bunny and treated to snacks to thank them for their participation in the blitz.
Way to go team Sumter County for going the “eggstra” mile for safety! After all–safety begins with you!
