In Hilo, Hawaii, MTM Transit is proud to partner with the County of Hawai’i Mass Transit Agency (MTA) to operate the Hele-On Kako’o Island-Wide Paratransit Services program, a service that ensures vital transportation for individuals with disabilities. As part of our comprehensive services, we handle everything from paratransit eligibility assessments to travel training and actual paratransit service provision.
Recently, one of our paratransit riders in Hilo faced a significant challenge due to an unsafe ramp at their home. This obstacle prevented the rider from accessing our services and attending essential medical appointments. Understanding the urgency of the situation, MTM Transit’s local Program Manager Micheal Bragg and Operations and Safety Manager Oren Grimm stepped in to help. They reached out to the Arc of Hilo, which partnered with Solid Rock Church to rebuild the ramp, ensuring the rider could safely get in and out of their home.
This remarkable effort by Micheal and Oren demonstrates MTM Transit’s commitment to our community. By going above and beyond their regular duties, they not only solved a problem but also made a profound impact on the life of a rider, embodying the true spirit of service.
