Visitors to one of Tucson’s most beloved natural treasures now have even more eco-friendly ways to explore it! The Sabino Canyon Recreation Area has expanded its shuttle fleet with new electric shuttles. These shuttles are operated by MTM Transit and serve the scenic Bear Canyon route, marking another step toward sustainable, emission-free transportation in the Coronado National Forest.
As featured in a recent Tucson Weekly article, these new 23-passenger electric shuttles join the existing larger Sabino Canyon Crawler fleet. Starting May 1, the four new vehicles are providing hourly service along the 1.9-mile Bear Canyon route, offering access to the Bear Canyon Overlook and the popular Seven Falls Trailhead. Like the main Sabino Canyon Crawler, they deliver a quiet, zero-emission ride that helps protect the canyon’s sensitive environment while enhancing the visitor experience.
At MTM Transit, we’re thrilled to operate these innovative electric shuttles. Transitioning to battery-powered vehicles aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainable mobility solutions that reduce environmental impact without compromising reliability or guest comfort.
“Silent running” is more than a catchy headline; it represents a cleaner, more peaceful way for visitors to experience the canyon’s natural beauty, complete with interpretive audio programs that inform passengers while minimizing noise for those exploring on foot.
