Recently, the MTM Transit Mobility Management team in San Joaquin, California was honored to partner with our client, the San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD); the National Federation of the Blind (NFB); and the San Joaquin Lions Club for the 6th Annual White Cane Awareness Walk and Celebration. This impactful event, hosted in recognition of Blind Equality Achievement Month and White Cane Awareness Day, highlighted the white cane’s profound role as a symbol of independence and empowerment for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
The celebration brought together community members, advocates, and partners to support the NFB’s initiatives. Our team set up an information table stocked with resources about blindness and accessibility, while an engaging White Cane Awareness Day ceremony emphasized the cane’s historical and cultural significance. The event concluded with a spirited community walk to Mountain Mike’s Pizza, where participants supported the NFB’s fundraising goals.
As a part of our presence at the event, we assisted attendees with completing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit eligibility applications and offered guidance on travel training, helping ensure that access to safe and reliable transportation is always within reach.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this celebration of resilience, independence, inclusion, and access!
