The Davis fire south of Reno, Nevada has burned more than 3,000 acres and triggered evacuations in local areas such as St. James Village, Galena, and other areas south of Mt. Rose Highway. As the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit provider for the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County in the Reno area, MTM Transit was honored to play a critical role in ensuring the safety of vulnerable residents. When the fire knocked out power at a local medical facility, the County Emergency Operations Center called on the Regional Transportation Commission and MTM Transit for immediate support.
With 26 patients who utilize wheelchairs and other mobility devices needing relocation to alternate facilities, six MTM Transit cutaway vehicles were quickly dispatched. Within 20 minutes, the patients were safely loaded and transported to safety.
This response showcased the strength of collaboration between the County, the Regional Transportation Commission, and MTM Transit’s Reno team in the face of crisis. Way to go team Reno!
