MTM Transit connects with the San Joaquin community to raise awareness of accessible transportation, travel training, and ADA services.

Building Connections and Advancing Accessibility in San Joaquin

At MTM Transit, community engagement is an important part of helping people understand and access the transportation resources available to them. Recently, our San Joaquin, California team had the opportunity to put that commitment into action at two local events focused on accessibility, inclusion, and community connection.

Since January 2021, MTM Transit has served as the Consolidated Transportation Services Agency (CTSA) in the San Joaquin Valley, providing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit eligibility assessments and supplemental travel training services. Through this partnership, we help ensure community members have access to the information, resources, and support they need to navigate their transportation options with greater confidence.

On October 9, our local team participated in the Valley Mountain Regional Center (VMRC) Cultural and Disability Resource Fair. The event brought the community together to explore disability resources, celebrate different cultures, and visit local micro shops.

MTM Transit’s local Program Manager Dorrae Moore and Travel Trainer Jasmine Wagner represented the local team at the Access San Joaquin table, where they connected with attendees and shared information about accessible transportation resources and services. The event provided a valuable opportunity to meet community members where they are and increase awareness of the transportation support available throughout San Joaquin.

The following day, October 10, the team continued its community outreach at the 8th Annual White Cane Awareness Walk and Celebration.

Designed to build awareness and understanding of the experiences of people who are blind or have low vision, the event invited community members to participate in a series of blindfolded activities and challenges. Attendees also had the opportunity to stop by the Access San Joaquin informational booth to learn more about travel training, discounted fares, and additional ADA services.

Dorrae and Jasmine didn’t just share resources from the Access San Joaquin table. They also joined the San Joaquin County Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind and fellow community members in the walk, demonstrating MTM Transit’s commitment to being an active participant in the communities we serve.

Moving Accessibility Forward, Together

Events like these create opportunities to turn information into connection. By bringing transportation resources directly into the community, our team can help individuals learn about services that may make it easier to get where they need to go and participate more fully in their communities.
