To mark this milestone, we’re sharing 15 fun facts that highlight our journey, achievements, and commitment to providing safe, reliable transportation. Whether you’re a long-time partner or new to our story, let’s take a trip down memory lane and explore the milestones that have shaped our success!
1. MTM Transit was founded in 2009 by the leadership of MTM, Inc., marking 15 years of dedicated service in the transit industry.
2. Since our founding, we have based all of our processes, hiring practices, and client partnerships on an unparallelled passenger-focused approach as we live out our motto of “Every Trip is Important” in every aspect of our operations.
3. Since our inception, MTM Transit has been a privately held, woman-owned and operated company—and we have no plans to sell or go public, allowing us to focus our efforts on providing the best possible service for our clients and their passengers.
4. Over the past 15 years, MTM Transit has provided safe and reliable transportation to passengers nationwide, covering more than 27.2 million miles annually.
5. MTM Transit started with a small team leading our first contract in Hamilton County, Ohio, and has grown to more than 1,750 employees across the country in 2024.
6. Every MTM Transit employee signs our Zero Accident Philosophy (ZAP) commitment letter upon hiring, signaling their agreement to follow our safety procedures to eliminate accidents and injuries. Our ZAP program even has a safety mascot, ZAP Man/Woman, who regularly visits locations nationwide to spread safety messages in a fun and engaging way.
7. Over the last 15 years, we have expanded our operations into 16 states and the District of Columbia, providing services in both urban and rural areas and continually growing the meet the need of our clients.
8. Many of our vehicles have on-board camera systems with extensive safety features, including facial recognition, drowsy and distracted driving detection, safe distance warnings, and audible alerts to ensure our vehicle operators provide the highest level of safety to our passengers.
9. Over the years, we’ve introduced electric and hybrid vehicles to our fleet as part of our commitment to sustainability—in 2024, these sustainable vehicles make up approximately 19.4% of our fleet.
10. MTM Transit developed one of the first platforms specifically built for managing the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit certification process: Mobility Direct.
11. Our training programs are unmatched in the industry. In addition to 40+ hours of new hire training, all vehicle operators must complete annual recertification, which includes LLLC (Look Ahead, Look Around, Leave Room, and Communicate) defensive driving, wheelchair securement, and customer service training.
12. We continually maintain some of the highest levels of safety performance, with an NTD Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) of just 0.11 in 2023.
13. Our largest client is also one of our oldest clients: the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro) in Austin, Texas. MTM Transit has worked with CapMetro since 2014, and was recently awarded a new 10-year contract with the agency—which means we’ll be celebrating our 25th anniversary with them, too!
14. MTM Transit is proud to have a workforce that reflects our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Alongside our affiliate MTM, 34% of our employees identify as BIPOC, and 76.66% of our employees are female.
15. Our commitment to the communities we serve goes beyond just providing a ride. Across the country, we continually contribute to the communities we partner with. From delivering supplies after natural disasters, to bringing internet services into communities, to sponsoring inclusive sporting events, MTM Transit always strives to make a positive impact on the communities our teams work and live in.
