As we celebrate Women’s History Month and mark International Women’s Day on March 8, MTM Transit takes a moment to reflect on the incredible contributions of women in shaping the transit industry—and our organization. Since our inception in 2009, MTM Transit has proudly been a woman-founded and owned company, dedicated to innovative, hands-on management that meets the transportation needs of communities across the nation. Founded by Alaina Macia, the President and CEO of our affiliate MTM Health, we operate as a privately held, woman-owned business enterprise (WBE). This foundation hasn’t just driven our success; it has fostered a culture of empowerment, inclusivity, and excellence.
At MTM Transit, our commitment to female leadership is more than a value. It’s woven into the fabric of who we are. Alaina Macia’s vision has propelled us to become an industry leader in providing Americans with Disabilities (ADA) paratransit, fixed route, shuttle, and mobility management solutions. Under her guidance, we’ve expanded to serve diverse communities, ensuring accessible, reliable transportation for those who need it most, including transit-dependent populations.
“What sets MTM Transit apart is our strong emphasis on female leadership, which drives change and empowerment from the top down,” said Alaina Macia. “Inclusion isn’t just a buzzword for us. It’s the foundation of our success.”
Today, more than 38% of our leadership team are women, surpassing the transportation industry average of 28% for C-suite executives and 34.5% for supervisory roles. This dedication to diverse perspectives has enabled us to innovate in areas like quality assurance, travel training, and ADA paratransit, creating more efficient and passenger-focused services.
Our commitment extends beyond leadership to every level of our organization. An impressive 42% of our workforce is comprised of female staff, reflecting the deep roots of women’s contributions throughout MTM Transit. This stands in stark contrast to the transit industry average of 29%, where women remain underrepresented despite their critical role in serving diverse riders. By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, we’ve built a team that mirrors the communities we serve, ensuring our solutions are equitable and effective.
Women’s History Month reminds us that progress in transit isn’t just about moving people: it’s about moving forward with intention. At MTM Transit, we’re proud to lead by example, showcasing that woman-owned and led organizations can outperform norms and create lasting impact. As we look to the future, we remain committed to fostering opportunities for women in transit, from operations to executive roles, and encouraging the next generation to join us in this vital work.
If you’re passionate about making a difference in community transportation, we invite you to explore career opportunities with MTM Transit. Together, let’s continue to empower women and build a more inclusive transit landscape.
